This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
