The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:

  • Each team has only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while another details all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
