The Details Known About the Victims of the Bondi Beach Shooting
At least 16 people perished and more than 40 were hurt when attackers fired on a Hanukah event at Bondi Beach, an incident local police have labeled a terrorist attack.
As of the newest reports, authorities have announced the number of fatalities is 16, which includes one of the alleged attackers. Moreover, 42 wounded individuals were admitted to the hospital.
The victims are still awaiting officially identified, but authorities state their ages range between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Reportedly a father of five children, he worked as the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and friends remembered him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.
“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member said.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.
She recounted the moments before the attack, stating they had been standing together when the gunfire began. “He moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,” she stated.
The husband and wife were both survivors of the Holocaust, having experienced unspeakable terror in their youth. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French authorities have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
Officially, a senior official declared that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must combat,” the message continued.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, police have confirmed.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was also killed during the attack, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
From the 42 people transported to hospitals, many are still under care, with a number in critical condition. The injured include two police officers who responded to the attack.
One of the injured is a bystander who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the attackers. Called a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Reports indicate he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he described the scene as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the response of those who came to assist. He said he felt it was a “miracle” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He said he listened to “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.
“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
