Starting XI

Dean Henderson Was rarely tested to perform during the opening 45 before forced to intervene from an opponent's bent shot. His sliding tackle against an Albanian attacker showed sharp game intelligence. Six out of ten

The debutant Examined against Albania’s biggest threat through their forward. Operated through the middle initially later drifted wider after Saka came on. 7

John Stones Moved up the pitch on the ball, as he has done before. On occasion was too casual in possession and the experiment was shelved by the interval. 6/10

The tall defender A constant threat at set pieces, per usual, could serve as an alternative for Stones in the backline rather than his partner. One wayward distribution after the break nearly resulted in a goal from Albania. Six

The young full-back One more confident performance by the 20-year-old following his debut versus Serbia. A teammate was unable to take the most of a clever flick behind the opposing backline. The role is firmly his at this stage. Seven

Adam Wharton His first start with the national team. Somewhat sloppy on the ball however his dangerous set-pieces posed a danger. An effective game manager available to the boss to call upon versus defensive opponents. Booked after a reckless tackle. 6/10

Declan Rice Deliveries from corners and free kicks caused problems. Enjoyed freedom to drift on the left but was offside upon receiving in front of goal. Granted a merited rest on the hour mark. Six

The star midfielder Functioned in a high position on the right and contributed with the hard yards. Displayed glimpses of brilliance but scuffed a shot wide. Replaced towards the end for a teammate, his competition, following a yellow card. 7

Jarrod Bowen Was presented with England’s best chance of the first half, his strike well saved from the opposing goalkeeper. With Quansah holding position, he was forced to stretch the play on the right although his balls from the touchline were hit and miss. Substituted late in the match. Six

The captain The decisive figure netting 77th and 78th strikes for his country. His first a trademark poacher’s finish and his next an excellent headed goal following a clever run away from the opposition. At 32, his form is unwavering and the side have every chance next summer when he's in the team. Eight

The attacker Had difficulty to influence play from the left. Had a good opening when set up from a teammate however the keeper kept it out. His replacement made much more of effect after coming on. Five

• Phil Foden (replacing a teammate on 63 minutes) Looked lively connecting well with Kane in more familiar role, 6
• Bukayo Saka (for Eze at the 63-minute mark) Failed to convert but his corner provided the first goal, 6
• Rashford (for Bowen 75) Energetic when brought on and set up the captain's brace via an excellent ball to the far post, 7
• Anderson (for the midfielder in the 75th minute) Looks established already, 6
• Rogers (replacing Bellingham with minutes remaining) Insufficient minutes to influence the game, 6/10
