PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired two times late to take a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
