Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
