British Designer Antony Price, Renowned for Designing for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."
Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Pioneering Career
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he started his work in clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in crafting sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he started creating pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States following her marriage.
With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

The industry mourns the loss to a true visionary whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
