A Special Release Pikachu Promo Seeks to Curb the Influence On Resellers

To celebrate the launch of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting partnership has been formed. Pokémon's creators alongside the Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store stocked with special items. Enthusiasts will find products like stationery, plushes, and artwork that are drawing from the museum's theme. The big draw, though, is a specially made Pikachu card, given as a free bonus at the pop-up. The store will operate both on-site at the museum to its web counterpart between late January and mid-April.

Pokécology That Inspires the Collaboration

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a highly anticipated tome packed with beautiful artwork that show creatures in their natural habitats. The concept like the kind of research an in-world scientist might publish once trainers provide field notes, or what Charles Darwin might have created if the famous islands teemed with flying-types instead of finches. Part of the charm stems from the book's scholarly treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of scientific inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita both hold doctorate degrees in ecology and behavioral science.

Why This Special Card Different

It is common for The Pokémon Company to release promos for major tournaments and crossover partnerships. Many such collector items often feature the iconic mouse Pokémon who serves as the franchise mascot. The factor setting this latest promotion apart is its distinctly bigger dimensions. Although precise specs have not been publicly disclosed, its distribution will certainly be strictly limited, with fans able to get just one card with each transaction.

Limiting Reseller Activity

Per an official announcement, a portion of the merchandise may also be available outside the institution itself. But, broader availability is slated for specific stores in the United Kingdom. Critically, fans will not be able to acquire this promo through the official web shop. While speculator demand is a given, the setup suggests they will have trouble hoarding mass quantities this time around. If you're unable to attend, consider an alternative like fossil-themed display coming to the Windy City later this year.

"Every penny of sales from the Museum shop and from its web shop, which covers these items, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the efforts of 400 scientists dedicated to scientific inquiry and finding answers to the planetary emergency," it says.
